After receiving a request to use 5-ply particleboard core doors by Chappell Door Company - http://www.chappelldoor.net/index.html, I did a little research as a favor to the client. The spec clearly identified requirements such as bonded core and compliance with WDMA IS-1A Extra Heavy Duty Classification. The Chappell literature cited compliance with the bonded core requirement and claimed that their doors met WDMA and AWI Premium Grade classifications but there were no indications regarding performance levels (aka Extra Heavy Duty, Heavy Duty, Standard Duty). A call to the manufacturer was handled very politely on their end and additional information was sent out. Based on the few pages taken from the Intertek test report, after comparing with WDMA requirements, the doors were found to meet Heavy Duty criteria but not Extra Heavy Duty.

This was my first experience with Chappell. Has anyone else used these doors? I understand that they have both 'stock' and 'architectural' doors (complying with AWI), 5 or 7 ply doors, and doors with or without bonded cores. I did not yet ask about FSC, agri-core, or any of the other questions I would normally raise.

Any info would be appreciated.
