I have a health department that is requiring a loading dock to meet requirements of a commercial kitchen (don't ask). So, they want the fireproofing sealed with a "non-washable" and "scrubbable" sealer. I am waiting to hear back from Cafco (Cafco 300 was used), but, in the meantime, anyone else encountered this? The top coat found on Cafco's website says it is "permeable" which I don't think will satisfy this health department. |

Robin,
First time for me, but the health department is "stuipid is as stupid does".
If the fireproofing is not applied consider an intumescent spray-applied fireproofing such as Albi Clad 800, an exterior grade product. It is expensive if applied to steel decking but beams only and columns are OK.
OR
Can you suspend a hard lid ceiling to conceal the overhead applications and apply an epoxy paint to create a tile like finish? |

Robin, Let's start with the fireproofing material: Cafco 300 isn't designed or intended to be used as an exposed fireproofing - it is a gypsum-based product that must be concealed within the construction.
They needed to use a material such as Cafco 400 or its equivalent that is Portland cement based and is designed for exposed use.
Contacting the Isolatek/Cafco rep is a good first step
By the way - how do you get a "non-washable" yet "scrubbable" sealer? Do they mean that it won't wash off? |

sorry - it is "washable" and "scubbable". It may be Cafco 400. and yes, it is already applied. |

sounds to me like you need to just cover the fireproofing with cement plaster and call it good.... |
