I am looking for a locker for a middle school project. This locker will be used for storing student artwork and needs to be secure and have ventilation. Does anyone know of such a beast?

Take a look at the manufacturers of educational casework; some of them have such items in their "standard" products.

I've done projects with musical instrument lockers and some had to hold a tuba. They are also ventilated. Look at DeBourgh

Lynn,

Don't you mean "Wenger"?

Well yeah, I did use them, but DeBourgh says they still have musical instrument lockers. And I should have written Wenger...but I didn't...sorry. Somehow, though, you figured it out. Kudos!

David - Here is a company that might be able to help you out. They actually talk about art room casework on their website. www.casesystems.com

Isn't this just a manufactured casework item? (Or custom.) We've done all sorts of minor variations of manufactured casework for this type of purpose.

Any casework manufacturer should be able to build something appropriate. Cabinet #459 in the Woodwork Institute Design Series is a cabinet for storing/drying ceramics. A base cabinet or hutch could be modified with vertical divisions on 3 inch centers if you want to store drawings or paintings standing up. Doors with ventilation would be good.

The casework Design Series drawings can be downloaded at http://woodworkinstitute.com/publications/casework.asp.
