I have been asked to evaluate a roofing proposal from CentiMark Roofing that was made directly to an Owner. I am not familiar with the company. In looking on the Web, it inidcates that it is a coast to coast operation that has been around since the 70's. They offer various roofing types and warrant them directly themselves. I wonder if it is consistantly the same membrane for each type or whether they buy from whomever they can get the best deal at the time. On the Website I do not see any indication of where they obtain the membrane. They evaluate, design, provide, maintain and warrant the roofing systems as a single source for the total package. Offer up to 20 year warranties.

Has anyone heard of this roofing company or had any experience with it?

I'm always a little nervous about contractors and manufacturers who bypass design professionals and try to have owners dictate sole source specs to design professionals. So no matter who it is, tell your owner that they (owner) should prepare a set of bid documents with baseline material and installation quality requirements, and obtain bids from several manufacturer/installer teams. In the absence of a manufacturer, there will be no FMG listed assembly, and meeting ASCE-7 wind design will be up to ... who? At best, you can identify ASTM standards for individual components, require NRCA details, and hire an independent RRO to make sure that installation practices are met.

Centimark is a large roofing installer company. They are not a manufacturer. I'd look carefully at the specifications for the roofing materials they are proposing - they may or may not be top of the line, and remember there's no manufacturer warranty behind the system. I'd also do a D & B and call references on any roofing installer before entering into a contract. A warranty from a former company is not worth much.

Industry sources say Centimark apparently has a very good reputation for response to leak response calls. I haven't had them on a project.

Good point. Also, many if not most jurisdictions require building permits to reroof. I wonder how they can approve a permit without some sort of plan/spec.

This may well be an indication of the plant engineering, facility management mentality, where re-roofing is not a "construction project" but more like fixing a leak-- a "go-do" attitude.

Then there is no concern over what manufacturer or material is used so long as there is a warranty offered and as noted, the installing outfit has a good call-back reputation

Is it Centimark's roofs that are leaking?

Ron,

As this is a public forum and I'm passing on comments from others, I didn't say that.
