I have received an e-mail from my CSI newsletter subscription about the upcoming CSI Academies in Dallas. I have a couple of questions for everyone here: 1) Is anyone (besides the esteemed colleagues among us who are presenting) planning on attending? My question is out of curiosity as it would be nice to kind of "know" some people who might be there. 2) From anyone who has attended this in the past (I am assuming that this has been done before but I'm not sure if it is an annual thing or not), I would appreciate some feedback regarding how worthwhile/beneficial you found these sessions to be, if you would go/are going again and if you would recommend attendance by others. Thanks in advance. Ride it like you stole it!!! |

I have attended one of the Academy events (San Francisco a few years ago). I liked it a lot. It was a great networking opportunity, as well as a chance to learn how others are dealing with similar challenges. The format is very flexible. There are three "tracts", and you sign up for a primary educational tract, but you can sit in on any of the sessions of interest to you, which I really appreciated. There are threads here on 4specs with "trip reports" so to speak. |

CSI has held the Academies in the past, but they have not been consistent about it from year to year. I have attended them twice and found them to be at least as beneficial as the classes held at the national convention. I can’t tell you how beneficial they will be to you specifically, because that will depend on your level of experience and amount of personal knowledge. It also depends on the specific efforts and gathering of hard-to-attain information of actual presenters. In the past, registration for the academy was more expensive than for the convention. Since the value to me did not exceed the value of the national convention, I did not think the extra cost was justifiable. I was not planning to attend this year, though I would like to. I find it difficult, in this economy, to justify using my firm’s funds for both the Academy and the National Convention. |
