The VA spec master refers to "Codes 1 through 10" in ASTM C627. The VA reviewer wants to know what Codes 1 through 10 are. Does anyone have the full ASTM standard that can help me? Thanks! |

The current version (2010) does not mention anything about "codes." Knowing the Federal government, especially the VA, they're probably working off an 80's era version. Ron Geren, AIA, CSI, CCS, CCCA, SCIP www.specsandcodes.com |

I checked the VA master specification and they reference the 1993 edition that was reapproved in 2007, but I didn't see any significant difference between the two. Neither mentions "codes." My guess is that they meant to state that the tile installation can pass test cycles 1 through 10 without damage. Cycles 1 through 4 are on a soft rubber wheels, cycles 5 through 8 are on hard rubber wheels, and cycles 9 and 10 are on steel wheels. Each cycle has a progressive loading and duration for each wheel type as follows: 1: 100 lbs / 1 hour 2: 200 lbs / 1 hour 3: 300 lbs / 1 hour 4: 300 lbs / 1 hour 5: 100 lbs / 1 hour 6: 200 lbs / 1 hour 7: 300 lbs / 1 hour 8: 300 lbs / 1 hour 9: 50 lbs / 0.5 hour 10: 100 lbs / 0.5 hour The standard actually includes up to 14 cycles. Note that this is a field test of a completed installation, hence its location in PART 3 of the VA spec. Ron Geren, AIA, CSI, CCS, CCCA, SCIP www.specsandcodes.com |
