Has anyone here specified an open joint rainscreen system as a contractor design build? When I say rainscreen system I mean to include: fasteners, insulation, z-girts, weather barrier, panels and mounting system.

Easy. Require that system pass AAMA 508 and you will be fine.

yes, but you have to give all the design criteria you care about, and all the testing criteria they are expected to meet. In addition, you need to draw the scope of work very carefully at the junction between the wall system and the supports, the sealants, drains, and other accessory items. but yes, I've done a lot of them.
