Product reps are coming out of the woodwork! I am deluged by calls from reps, some of whom I have not heard from in years ....if at all! Most of these reps want to give our firm a product box lunch presentation. Before, I usually had to beg them to give us a presentation. Boy, what a difference 6 months makes! |

Another thing is that I am getting 3 or more e-mails from AIA and at least one from CSI everyday. Oh, and that totally cold call insulation rep that I just got rid of - interesting product though... |

unfortunately we have seen several national manufacturers ending architectural representation programs in Florida, reps we have grown to trust and rely on for updates and information are now out of a job, is anyone else hearing of this or is this only happening in Florida? |

Another sign... number of interested bidders. We have a small university lab renovation project currently bidding, and I heard we have 17 (general) contractors interested in it. 77 planholders total. |

We had a recent project estimated at $16 million come in at $11 million. This bidder did not leave much on the table, either. Other projects are coming in 25 to 30% under. Lead times for certain products are down to 2 to 4 weeks from 12 to 16. It truly is a whole new world. |

While I've been slowing down, but still steady, I just heard from one of my recent clients [a specialty architectural firm - hospitality] went from 54 down to 3 employees. .....sobering |

Last week I spoke to a representitive of a trusted local company that, while giving lunch n' learns, is not providing lunch due to deep layoffs within the company. Additionally, several of our CSI industry memebers have been laid off or had perks severely cut back. |

Same thing has happened in my area as well. In one case, the rep is retiring and the company has not done anything to replace them. We also had a project come in way under the estimate. One problem I heard about is that a number of contractors are bidding school construction work here in CA without prior experience working with DSA (Division of the State Architect) and are thus unfamiliar with the required protocols and procedures. |
