Is there a method or product out there used to resurface or clean existing black boards. |

Real slate or just the normal ol' black (or green) board? There is a paint that I've heard of that can make a "blackboard" on any wall. |

These are real slate chalkboards. Some school district employees seem to recall a resurfacing/restoring product. I am not aware of any such product. |

Maybe contact a local stone fabricator? (I remember when I was in elementary school, we'd wash the boards with water and that always seemed to work; but there's something grinding in the back of my mind about a light kind of oil that could be used) |

Did you check the warranty? I have always wondered about the "lifetime of the building" warranty on slate chalk boards. |

You'd have to speak to God about that, since He makes the slate. |

Yeah, but maybe somebody else "makes the slate better" |

There is a methodology where the slate is resurfaced in place by grinding. This removes a thin layer of slate that has a sort of glaze on it. I cannot recall how it is done, but the City of Boston used to do this regularly when renovating older schools--it worked great. |

Thank you all. Great suggestions. I will post a follow up if they resurface them. |

Several years ago I had a similar problem. Someone at Neal Slate was quite helpful. |
