Rightly or wrongly I have ours as 116716, and Loading and Protection Systems as 116719 [for unloading platforms from tank trucks, etc.] |

Since my first response looks so utterly stupid[!!!!!- I think it was an early on stab into draft MF04] may I suggest we go after 11 94 00, Safety Equipment; with Sections thereafter for Personnel Safety Equipment [direct on-person stuff like fall protection]; Loading and Protective Safety Equipment, etc. [like platforms, extending platforms, access stairs, etc. To me this deserves its own special place and not being shoe-horned into some remote location; also acknowledging that it is after all, "equipment"] |

I like keeping fall protection equipment as a subset of 112400 Maintenance Equipment. Even more, I would want not to use the word "safety" in the section title. |

Additional opinions from my fellow Canucks. Specifier #1 "Suggest: 07 72 69 Roof Anchors and Safety Restraints We should send request to MasterFormat committee" Specifier #2 "I actually sent a request to MasterFormat Update Committee already, but had it listed under 11 24 31 – Roof Fall Arrest and Travel Restraint System, following very closely after 11 24 23 – Window Cleaning Systems. Since these items seem to be closely related, it looked like it should be an easy acceptance by MF. But then, I have suggestions going back to Sept 2006 that are still “in process” and more than two dozen listed as “new” since Jan 2007. Seems like the suggestion box is only that – a suggestion of a box." He went on to say: "I think either location could work depending on if fall protection is seen as a roof accessory or as a delegated design component. I viewed the later since fall protection is an owner’s responsibility under our Occupational Health and Safety Legislation (and we don’t have responsibility under the building code to provide on low rise structures – scary huh), whereas fall arrest systems have to be engineered to support a dropping load and a certain force – and is usually combined with window cleaning equipment (and which is our requirement to include by the Building Code)." |

I made a proposal to update Masterformat on www.masterformat.com in December 2006 to adde 112426 Facility Fall Protection, which is what I use for our office master. There is a current number and title 416716 Plant Fall Protection Equipment, but I thought there should be a parallel number/title for facilities. (I know that the update committee has been backed up on reviewing the many proposals they've received.) |
