The suggestion here is that Time Capsules belong in 101400 Signs and Identification. MasterFormat04 doesn't list them there; nor can I find them in the index. The 2 manufacturers that I've found have no specifications that I've discovered on their sites, although I have emailed one of them to ask if they have anything. In the meanwhile, I need to write a section for one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (1) Is this where it should go - 101400; (2) has anyone done one before; (3) can anyone think of something to be wary of? |

For your no. 1, how about using an unassigned number under 10 50 00 Storage Specialties or under 10 80 00 Other Specialties? |

105000 includes "manufactured storage facilities providing temporary security..." This thing should be providing the opposite of temporary security! But I like "Other Specialties". |

Actually, that's for 10 51 00 Lockers, and I wouldn't call a time capsule a locker as you alluded to. I think either would work, but "Other Specialties" seems to cover everything else not given a specific number or title. |

OK, I read the "includes" as being more generic to the "Storage Specialties" heading, but I can definitely see where it could be read as specific to the secondary heading for lockers. The reason I'm leaning toward "Other..." is that the capsule package includes the storage capsule, complete with special packaging elements, and the sign. |

Have you considered the type of box you are constructing? If it is really just a sheet metal box, you might consider 055816 for formed metal enclosures. I have one client’s standard spec that uses 055821 for “Cornerstone Storage Box”, but I don’t know if that is an official MasterFormat04-approved number. It is basically just a spec for formed stainless steel sheet metal. Aside from sheet metal work, the box is sealed on all edges and the top slides open and shut. |

Yeah, that was a consideration. The box is stainless steel with a silicone seal. The sign is from the same manufacturer, though, so that would mean additional information for the metal sign. Plus, the manufacturer provides all the accoutrements for placing items in the box - acid free envelopes and paper, oxygen absorbers, silica gel, etc., so I think it should be something "special". If it didn't have all the extras as part of the package, that's exactly where I'd put it. |
