I am unfamiliar with the technique of "water jet cutting" but an Interior Designer insists it be used for a sheet rubber floor. Can anyone share information or a link relative to any Part 3 language? Or is it a Part 2 issue? |

We've specified it for linoleum floors and there are a variety of approaches. Here are some fabricators that were helpful as sources of information: 1. Creative Edge Mastershop: 800.394.8145. 2. JIT Waterjet: 800.279.6933. 3. Waterjet Works: 800.856.0972. |

Water jet cutting is usually a CNC or computer controlled process. I would specify it as shop fabrication in Part 2. It is not a Part 3 installation issue. |

Bruce, I have done a couple of projects using laser jet and water jet cutting before and just off the top of my head this is what I remember. I do not profess to have all the answers, but this has worked for me in the past and hopefully this can help you. PART 1: Under Submittals _ I usually ask for sample of specified work for approval by Architect before installation of work (if work is not a large project) because this is such a detailed item that I think you want to see examples before it is installed later. Also in Shop Drawings, I think you might want to have shop drawings submitted to you showing the location of water jet cutting work, details of installation, pattern direction (if any) things such as that... PART 2: I usually do something similar to this 2.1 SHEET VINYL FLOORING: Manufacturer name; or approved equal. A. Material B. Size C. Color D. Pattern: 1. Water Jet Cutting: Insert Fabricator Name here; provide water jet cutting in pattern as indicated on drawings. Submit sample for verification by Architect, refer to Article 1.# for requirements. (Please note: I tried to tab No. 1 above to be located under D. above but this forum will not allow tabbing I guess) PART 3: Now under the Installation Article, I typically add a note similar to this below where I specify how to install in a certain pattern specific to my project. install water jet cutting pattern as indicated on approved shop drawings and as recommended by fabricator for project conditions. All this is based on the fact that my Interior Designer and Architect have done a floor pattern layout on their drawings and the fabricator can use that to help with submittals, shop drawings and installation requirements. Hope this can help you in some way. Melissa |
