As an independant consultant, I have been asked to write the specs for these on a project and I feel like it is way out of my scope and understanding. Who has written these on your projects? Has anyone here written specs for them? |

Had a local provider write some spec's for me. Then he did not get the job. The contractor that did brought up issues he saw and the system (including the selected light fixtures) was changed. These guys are so busy filling orders that service is not a priority.
After the fact we got in house electrical engineers involved. Even they looked to providers for support. The good thing about having you electrical engineers involved is they can talk the talk and keep the providers somewhat honest. |

The Phoenix CSI Chapter just completed a Green Sheet titled "Photovoltaic Systems for Commercial and Institutional Buildings." It has a specification section for photovoltaic systems. You can purchase online at the chapter's website (www.csiphoenix.org).
You can request the electronic version (PDF) or get the printed version, which has the specification in MS-Word format on the accompanying CD-ROM. |

Check MF04 in Division 26-- under 26 31 00; other similar work there along with other references and locations |

It depends. The section that is part of the Green Sheet is a performance specification for delegated design of a PV system. Of course, the electrical engineer will have to design the building electrical system to accommodate the incorporation of a PV system in the building's electrical system and for utility company grid tie-in.
There are some spec issues that the electrical engineer will need to be involved in, but this isn't any different than the structural engineer providing loading information for a curtain wall system.
However, its up to you and what you feel comfortable doing. |

This is very ironic because I am in the same situation and have just started to write a performance PV specification for a project that I am working on. Ron, I just purchased the Phoenix Chapter Green Sheet that I will incorporate into my efforts. This is a great resource for specification writers. |

Specification sections that require the expertise of two diciplines are always a challange. Each party feels that the other party will not do justice to his issues. Each party also feels that he could address the other parties issues.
I believe that the true collaboration that is needed in these situations is a rare thing. |
