Does anyone have any experience with Certainteed's (formerly BPB's) "GlasRoc" sheathing? I'm reviewing it as a comparable product to "Dens-Glass Gold" but only have the manufacturer's data to go by. Thanks. |

I have been specifying both as equivalent since before Certainteed bought BPB with blessings from our local building envelope consultants. |

I have a nice sample of the product here as well as the data. I have them listed in my specification as a contractor's choice, he can choose either the Dens product or the GlasRoc. Been doing that for a bit more than a year. William |

We have been allowing both products for quite a while now. Have recieved no complaints from Contractors or Owners. In fact, the Contractors enjoy having a choice. |

National Gypsum is also manufacturing a sheathing product to meet ASTM C 1177 “Standard Specification for Glass Mat Gypsum Substrate for Use as Sheathing”. Expect the other manufacturers to follow suit now that G-P's patent has expired. I have started not naming products but using ASTM C 1177 as the criteria for sheathing. |

Our firm would like to be assured that there is a true equal to DensGlas for our public bid projects, but when looking at the ICC Evaluation Reports for these products we have noted the following: DensGlas Gold complies with ASTM C 79, which covers "core treated" exterior sheathing. GlasRoc complies with ASTM C 1177, glass mat gypsum substrate. The core is typically gypsum and water resistant but not treated. Treated core systems seems to be superior in terms of water resistance. Water resitance is the same for both. C 79 allows surface water absorbtion of not more than 1.6g on front and back surfaces after 2hrs. C 1177 does not address water absorbtion. GlasRoc info does not address R-value or permanence. Note also that DensGlas allows application of self-adhereing systems. GlasRoc apparently does not. |

Not sure what you are looking at, but C1177 covers glass-mat gypsum sheathing, which includes Dens-Glass Gold. C79 is for paper-faced gypsum sheathing. |
