How do you address waterproofing penetrations to be protected by firestop systems in the specifications. Masterspec calls: "For piping penetrations for plumbing and wet-pipe sprinkler systems, provide moisture-resistant through-penetration firestop systems." But who warrants that the system installed will be moisture resistant? How do you specify this?

Presealed Systems www.presealedsystems.com offers floor penetration protection devices that are UL-rated as penetration firestopping devices ("F" and "T"-rated) and also are "W" rated for resistance to passage of water, per UL 1479.

I believe the term moisture-resistant is used instead of waterproof, as waterproof implies resistance to hydrostatic head, which the device may or may not provide.

Dear Anonymous: Can you point me to where you found this reference in MASTERSPEC? I cannot find it.

Michael, latest version of Section 07841, Masterspec 11/02 edition, page 3-1.3C1 - as follows: "For piping penetrations for plumbing and wet-pipe sprinkler systems, provide moisture-resistant through-penetration firestop systems."

11/07 is the "latest" and does not include that sentence.

Masterspec 95 and 04 are identical on my system. You must have had a glitch on your installation. Try installing the 95 version again.

ARCOM revises both MF95 and MF04 versions of MasterSpec sections at the same time.

As a matter of fact, the text of each is identical except for section numbers and titles.
