We're looking for residential cabinetry manufacturers (for kitchenettes in a design/build barracks in Texas). First place I looked was 4Specs.com (123800), where I found several dozen listings. It's a great start, but how do you narrow that down? Can one sort by location? Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? |

Yes - go to under all the listings - there is a green button - Show these listings in Zip Code and the page will change to a zip code order - company name, website, city, state, zip and phone. Intended to help on LEED projects by identifying potential suppliers. Visit website, see if the products are a possible solution, call to validate specifics for the LEED credit. |

One thing I look for is whether or not the manufacturer is KCMA (Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association) certified. However, if the project is high-end, I usually stick with AWI. You can find out more at www.kcma.org. |

Also consider "HUD Severe Use" cabinets. I was going to suggest not naming manufacturers based on my recollection of residential projects from days past, thinking that we did a performance based spec (KCMA, HUD severe use, etc.) However in looking back at past projects I note that we did name several manufacturers for one of our clients. I guess they had a list of folks they had pre-approved. If you wish, I'll email to you. |

Whether its LEED or not, local manufacturers are always a good bet, shipping costs are high these days, esp. for bulk items. |

If you can not find a local (statewide) manufacturer, a good bet is a manufacturer with a strong and long history - Regal Kitchens based in Miami has been manuf Kitchen Cabinets for 45 years - http://www.regalkitchensinc.com/ |

I agree with George's comments about HUD approved cabinets. Most residential lines are made the way their made, meaning, you really can't be sure of what you're getting other than appearance-related elements. At least the HUD requirements force a reasonable level of durable construction. |

Thanks, everyone, for your help. (Colin, I guess the fact that your "ZIP code sort" bar was bright green made it hard to perceive...a big duh!...) |
