I have a really heavy 600 pound 8'wide metal swinging gate that does not have a roller or support wheel on the leading edge due to variations in the surface height/drive aisle below it.
I need a heavy duty gate hinge, and am having difficulty finding something suitable. Can someone point me in the right direction? |

Richards Wilcox makes strap hinges and associated back plates that may work. |

Say, while we are at gate hinges, how about any info about the gates themselves-- gates to enclose a transformer on the outside of a building, in particular.
How about a tubular steel frame, cross-bracing, and covered with a louvered or open mesh to allow air flow?
Any suggestions on details? |

Nathan, you might look into Hager 790 series stainless steel continuous hinge. Hager says the hinge will support doors up to 600 pounds.

It's not only the door weight, but also the width. The two in combination develop a moment that the hinge has to resist. Richards Wilcox has tables to select hinge size based on door weight and width, and other tables to select quantity of hinges based on door height. |

I had a researched a similar condition and found a recessed bearing pivot which would do the job, but I can't remember who made it. This other firm, http://www.brookfieldindustries.com/ may have what you need. |
