Many years ago while working in Boston, I got into the habit of keeping a work diary. It was never more sophisticated than a college-ruled spiral bound notebook that I kept my "to do" list, took notes, phone call notes, etc. I dated the pages and filed them when they were filled and started another. These notebooks have generally served as a pretty good record of what's gone on on projects.
I am now being "encouraged" to be more digital, so I'm wondering if others may have had similar habits and perhaps found an iPad app purpose built for the task that might have search, allow insertion of sketches, or other features that are useful. |

Have you looked at OneNote? it offers many of the options you mentioned. |

The major downside I have with OneNote is that it must be connected to the internet to work. When I'm out and about, that isn't always possible, and that's when I really want to use it. |

Take a look at these apps for the iPad: Penultimate, Notability and Notes Plus. All of these Apps meet and exceed what you are asking for. Notability also adds the ability to do it on the MacOS. I am not sure about the PC. There are many journal apps available on the iPad/iPhone at the iOS App Store. I suggest that you look at them by doing a search for "journal". |

OneNote doesn't require an internet connection to work. I commonly add notes while offline. They obviously won't sync while offline, but once you connect again they will sync across all devices. |

I'll have to experiment with OneNote a bit more. It seemed to me I couldn't get my current notes when I wasn't online. |

If you're storing your current notes on the cloud (ie. OneDrive) then it will show the most current since the last sync on each device.
For example: If you create a note on your phone while it is offline and then you try to open the note on your desktop, the note not show up because it hasn't been able to sync from your phone to the cloud, and then to your desktop. You'll have to connect your phone to the internet and sync for it to show up on your desktop. In the meantime, it would still be available locally on your phone as you had last saved it there.
