Using MasterSpec, Masterworks software, and the Multifile tool, does anyone know if there a way to work (in one step) with files that are in subfolders? When I select the top level folder, no subfolders populate the dialogue box. It appears that you can select a subfolder and work on the files in that folder in one operation, but cannot select multiple subfolders to perform the work in one step. Example - MasterSpec documents install in folders/subfolders, e.g., \Full Length\[multiple subfolders, named by Division]\[individual spec section files]. So, on a copy of the same, would like to use the multifile tool to change document formatting on all files in all subfolders in one operation. Thomas E. Momeyer, RA, CCS, LEED AP BD+C |

I think Multifile only works within the folder you have selected. MasterSpec gives you the option when installing to put the files in subfolders by division or in one single folder. I used to select the subfolders option, but it became a hassle for me with how I operate, so now I just install them in one single folder Ron Geren, FCSI, AIA, CCS, CCCA, SCIP www.specsandcodes.com |

I do the same thing as Ron. For navigation once you are in the folder, just type two digits and you are there. It is not any problem except to someone who does not know the divisions by number, or people who feel a need to do everything with a mouse, or scroll windows by holding down the arrow button, that would take forever. There are much easier ways. |

Thanks Ron and Chris. One folder works for me! A couple more questions... 1. In multifile, document format, saving a custom format template works fine. There doesn't appear to be a way to edit that template, only to start from scratch and re-create it with the change you want to make. 2. SpecAgent turned off, meaning it's not on the desktop or on the taskbar. That may be a good thing :-), but suppose I want to turn it back on, how do you do that? Thomas E. Thomas: In the Masterworks ribbon, click on "Wizards" and select "Format Wizard." A dialog box will appear with three options. Click on "Modify an Existing Template" and browse for the templat file you want to modify. I'm using the paragraph builder to look at manufacturers and their websites. I haven't used SpecAgent since. On the Masterworks ribbon, SpecAgent is listed in the "Resources" area. Ron Geren, FCSI, AIA, CCS, CCCA, SCIP www.specsandcodes.com |

Ron, thanks for the followup. The format wizard you mentioned allowed me to modify a custom format template. When you install Masterspec to one folder, is there an option to separate full, short, and outline versions, or do they all go in one folder. For the subscription version we have, that is approx 1500 files. Thanks, Tom Thomas E. Momeyer, RA, CCS, LEED AP BD+C |

Thomas: Yes, you have the option of putting the different types of specs into separate folders. That is what I do. Ron Geren, FCSI, AIA, CCS, CCCA, SCIP www.specsandcodes.com |
