I have yet to be paid by one of my clients on a public project. When I emailed the firm's accountant that my invoice is way over due, the accountant replied the firm had not yet been paid by the client. Is there a way I can do a public records search to find out if the architect has been paid?

One of the problems with "paid when paid" contracts is we are completely at the mercy of what the client and/or owner tells us.

Where is project? I expect that procedures for public records vary by jurisdiction.

David: Paid when paid and paid if paid laws vary by state. Do a little google research and see if they are even valid in your state, and that might give you some leverage
