Since moving into the building products industry, I've been using OmniClass to file virtually everything... great organizational tool for the vast number of documents associated with a small sliver of commercial construction products. The question of where to file certificates and declarations (term often used by foreign authorities)keeps nagging at me. I'm referring to a document often issued by a manufacturer, industry association or third-party agency attesting to a product's performance such as a UL Certificate of Compliance. Another quandary concerns where to file product transparency documentation like Product Category Rules (worked on asphalt and single-ply roofing PCR), Life Cycle Assessments and Environmental Product Declarations. From my perspective, as a manufacturer, Table 36 - Information is the likely location for such documents, but nothing seems to fit. Evaluations, Material Standards, and Product Literature just don't fit. I think new titles in Table 36 are in order. Any ideas? Is OmniClass being actively maintained? Many thanks... |

I think this one is covered, in 36-11 31 17 15 - Test Standards. Synonym: Includes: ASTM, Underwriters Laboratories. |

Regarding your other question about EPDs, for better or for worse I think they could go in 36-11 31 17 11 Sustainability Standards, Synonym: Includes LEED. Or 36-11 31 17 13 Environmental Standards. I do wonder if this is divided up the best way, e.g. IAQ is a subcategory of environmental, but not sustainability and not LEED? Anyway this looks like the general area, might benefit from some light user customization and then recommendations to the task team? I believe it is omniclass@csinet.org. Last I checked in with them not long ago I got a fairly quick response, and it seems they are on a regular update cycle and keeping this thing going. |
