Any traffic coating experts out there that can offer equivalent systems to NeoGard's "Deocartive Peda Gard" system? I need 2 more... With 3M backing out of this market, I am looking for another manufacturer to replace my spec listing...

I am not sure how the Neogard does their 'decorative' system, but Tremco's products are available in a variety of colors and also includling custom mixes of fine aggregate that totally change the basic look and texture of the surface. They have both vehicular and pedestrian systems, and a version that is low VOC.

Anon,

We specify products from Neogard, Tremco, and sometimes from Sonnoborn and Pacific Polymers for pedestrian and vehicular traffic coatings (TC). We do not use the term "decorative" in our descriptions.

I was a manufacturer rep for Gaco Western, who not coincidentally manufactures dandy traffic coatings, historically competing with Neogard and 3M. The manually-applied urethane application (U-62/U-64) is an outstanding product.

Wayne - there is a 'common' decorative application that utilizes color granules. These applications rely on an aliphatic topcoat that binds the color granules. These decorative coatings are best in areas of pedestrian traffic, not vehicles, and only for surfaces with less than 2% slope.

The granules are sourced from the epoxy floor industry, and are sold to the installer by Gaco. The granule mixture may be modified to suit the design.

We are currently using this product on several condominium projects unit balconies where decorative patterns were desired:

Ultra Tex is an acrylic topping approved by the waterproofing manufacturer for use over the specified polyurethane waterproofing in order to achieve a decorative pattern, selected by the Architect, and included in the single source warranty by the waterproofing manufacturer.
Ultra-Tex Coating is manufactured by Euclid Chemical Company, by a facility covered by current ISO 9001 certification, www.euclidchemical.com

Doug and Jerome,

Thanks for the leads on alternative products and additional information on decorative application.
All my projects are rehabs that match existing color, ususally that wonderful verison of "battleship" gray or grey.

I have had the opportunity to spec other Gaco products but not their trafic coatings. The most persistent voices are from Tremco and Neogard in PNW.

Anonymous,
There are many Polyurethane deck coating manufacures out there. We were as shocked to hear that 3M pulled out of the market. However, since they made that decission they have referred approx. 20 projects to us as they have always said that we (Pacific Polymers International)were an equal to their high build systems. Many specifiers are going back to the old standards of specifying waterproof deck systems @ 75 to 90 mils(dft)in thickness and sometimes as high as 150 mils. You may want to stick with a Aliphatic topcoat for UV stability depending on where your projects are located. If odor is a concern, schools, hospitals, downtown projects, etc.....you may want to look at products such as Elasto-Deck 6500VT. 100% solids, aliphatic, cold process, polyurea type systems.

Good Luck!
