We have a substitution request for CMI Architectural Products in lieu of Kawneer. Does anyone have experience with CMI - good or bad? Of course, per Murphy, I need information by noon today (11/16/05). Thanks! |

I don't have any experience with CMI, but then all my experience with Kawneer has been less than satisfactory so I don't spec them any more. Where is CMI located? I will also check with my favorite curtain wall manufacturer. |

Minnesota - and I agree about Kawneer, too. They are being phased out of our spec if I get to the designers soon enough in the process. This is a case where I didn't and Kawneer was used for the design. The contractor is having problems with lead time. |

I have the same problem in my office if I don't get to the designers first. I'm seriously considering dumping the Kawneer catalog. I have had experiences with them on both coasts (East & West)with them being non-responsive and uncooperative, no matter the size of the firm or the project. I have contacted a friend of mine at Arcadia in Tempe, AZ to see what he may know about CMI. I currently spec them as my basis-of-design (their main plant is here in Vernon, CA)with Vistawall and U.S. Aluminum, both with a presence here in California. Arcadia tends to be higher end, but competitive. They have gotten a number of our school projects. |

Also on the window front. I have been running into a few local manufacturers that extrude there own aluminum windows now. It has been kinda fun to talk with these guys and spec whatever type of profile and construction I want. (I had good luck with this in ARZ.) Window manufacturers need to learn thier lesson (kawneer) that there product is starting to be able to be custom made, because the tools are cheaper now, and most of the hardware and gasketing are off-the-shelf items. |

I'm from Minnesota and we spec CMI as the standard of quality for aluminum-framed storefront. We have had very good results with this company and strongly recommend it. |
