In researching "truncated dome" DWS, I have seen everything from tiles for placing directly in cast-in-place concrete, to products that are adhered to a surface; I have found products made from stone, metal, and a variety of polymeric materials. Can anyone recommend product types they've specified (and how/where they were specified)? |

I have seen hard rubber/plastic types commonly used. Here in Boston, all the subway stations use that at the edge of the platforms. I remember that the "T" (as we call it) did some in-place research a few years back and settled on that product. Also, I was in San Francisco on Labor Day, and I noticed that they have made extensive use of what looks like the same product at curb cuts currently being installed throughout various neighborhoods. I'm sorry I can't give you a product name. |

A good web site for researching detectable warning products: http://www.access-board.gov/adaag/dws/manufacturers.htm we've specified vanguard's products in the past, scroll down to their link on the above website. |

Our local ready-mix plant has forms that they bring out to the job site and cast in place. In looking through the "new" ADAAG, which apparently hasn't been adopted yet (is this correct?), detectable warnings appear to be required at rail platforms only, not at curb ramps. Interesting change in scope. |

I have specified both cast in and surface applied tactile warning panels, usually made out of yellow plastic with truncated domes on them, sort of like Pirelli tile for outdoors. Two companies are: ADA Solutions, Inc (800) 372-0519, and Engineered Plastics Inc. (800) 682-2525. Many cities and some school districts are using them at disabled access ramps and street corners. |

Leon: If the domes are cast in place, is the contrasting-color requirement for DWS filled by painting the concrete after curing, or by casting colored concrete in the first place? |

Integrally colored concrete is preferred, since paint or surface coating may need periodic maintenance. |
