I need to write a spec telling the contractor to hire a specialist to document, remove, store, repair and reinstall church stained glass windows valued at $1/2 million. Can anyone send me a spec that I can at least us to go by or recommend a resource? Thanks |

Have you tried the government's historic preservation info online? Here is a link to the Historic Preservation Technical Procedures page: http://w3.gsa.gov/__852565c500543eb4.nsf?OpenDatabase To quote from the intro: "As public steward of many historic federal properties, GSA has developed technical procedures to be used in specialized historic preservation work, as well as general evaluation, maintenance and repair of older building materials." |

The professionals most appropriate to this work are conservators. Most likely you want an Architectural Conservator, but there are others who specialize in stain glass. One of their national organizations is the American Institute of Conservation... their web site is: http://aic.stanford.edu/index.html You may also want to require that the consevator meet the NPS Conservator qualifications: http://www.cr.nps.gov/local-law/gis/html/quals.html A conservator is a professional consultant, managing their work within a construction contract can be a challenge. |

I might be able to help you. Can you email me privately at barbstep@comcast.net I have the name and contact info. of an excellent stained glass company. They are the company that made and installed the Dole Institute stained flag in Kansas. They would be a good source for you. Barb |
