Pre-Covid, our chapter meetings consisted of a social hour, dinner, and a program. Now the "meetings" are nothing but a program presentation on Zoom. For me the social hour and dinner conversations were the most beneficial part of the meeting. Now with just the program - without much conversation is pretty useless. Has anyone worked out a "social hour" and "business meeting" (with chat rooms) integration with the chapter meeting and program Zoom meeting. Please! We really need this. A simple program presentation is generally no interest to 2/3 of the chapter members signed up for the meeting. I believe that we need to find a formula for getting the social aspect into CSI or the organization will die. Ed Storer, CSI Member Emeritus |

At the CSI chapter level, I have not seen anything, but the AIA Contract Documents Committee used an online app for our "happy hour" gatherings after our meetings last month. The app is called "Gather Town" (https://gather.town/). The graphics are reminiscent of 1980's video games, but it worked out pretty well. The app creates a space (bar, lounge, etc.) and you create an avatar that you move around the space. As you get closer to other people, their video feeds fade in and the conversations get louder--just like in a real social gathering. You can leave one group to go to another group. As you leave, their video feeds fade as well as the conversations until you approach another group. Ron Geren, FCSI Lifetime Member, AIA, CCS, CCCA, CSC, SCIP

Ron, Thanks. I will forward this to the Chapter Board and see if we can't revive the meetings. Ed Storer, CSI Member Emeritus |
