I see that CSI has dropped SCIP as a corporate sponsor. What exactly is a CSI corporate sponsor?

A company that pays CSI a lot of money.
I am sure the SCIP board decided to stop paying to be a corporate sponsor, rather than CSI "dropping" them.

What does a corporate sponsor get in return for paying money?

Discounts on employee membership dues.
Discounts on CSI annual convention registration fees.
Probably a few more discounted items like publications or seminars.

As far as the benefit, or perceived benefit, SCIP would have had as a corporate sponsor, I would not know.
But, it would be interesting to know who’s initial idea it was to become a corporate sponsor, and what the SCIP board thought of it at the time.

SCIP had sponsored several CSI Academies in the past. Also we sponsored part of the cost of the Fellows booklets a few years ago.
The Corporate Partner idea was suggested by CSI and offered to SCIP; it was not SCIP's idea, but we did see the benefit to SCIP. The SCIP board discussed the offer and decided to accept it. I'm not speaking for the board, but I believe the consensus is to not donate the money to get membership discounts, our intent is to donate money to further education. We definitely want to be involved with CSI in education as many of our members are active in CSI education.

CSI Corporate Partner was originally promoted by SCIP to attendees at the CSI Academies, since that was the focus of the Corporate Partnership. After the Academies ended, Corporate Partnership was marketed to potential Sponsors. On the SCIP website, under Sponsor Program in Quick Links, there is a reference to "SCIP - A CSI Corporate Partner" (http://www.scip.com/sponsors.html). This page was developed as a landing page for links in the two advertisements that SCIP was allowed to place in the CSI Weekly each year for two years. SCIP will be allowed to post a CSI Corporate Partner placard at their booth in Austin this year, since the agreement won't end until September 16, 2016.
