I am attending and co-presenting on Friday 10/18 at 11am about Incorporating DEI into Design and Construction. We have a Division 01 Section draft for DEI Requirements and we are seeking constructive specifier feedback in this course! I welcome all to this session! I will not be attending. I have no NEED for earning units (I'm retired), and there isn't really a way to attend without paying for learning units. It's frustrating. I'd like to attend the Welcome Reception, the Fellows Breakfast, and the Awards ceremony(s), but can't without paying for the whole thing - plus the very costly breakfast. So I'll skip this year - and maybe future conventions - if there isn't an ā la carte option. |

I will be there. I hope to see some of my CSI Houston Chapter colleagues since this will be the first time to attend a CSI event in my hometown since I moved to San Antonio in 2021. In the past I would add a short vacation at the end of the conference (Philadelphia, Baltimore, Chicago for example). I will do the same this year but it will be in Orlando. I've pretty much seen the sites in the Houston area. |

Unfortunately it takes place on the first days of the holiday of Sukkot, so I am out. Again. |

And that's one more thing CSI should pay attention to - they wouldn't think of having the convention December 23-26. |

I did attend the conference held this year in my native city. The three-hour drive from my current home in San Antonio was uneventful and the weather was pleasant. I thought the event as a whole was well run. I was pleased to see the Hyatt Regency hotel has been kept up very well. It is now 52 years old IIRC. I would rather someone scan my badge instead of my having to scan an RF code after each learning session. I realize it is better if attendance is taken at the end of the presentation instead of the beginning which would allow someone to essentially skip it but still get credit. I hope I am able to attend the 2025 national conference in Cleveland as I have not yet visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame which is definitely on my bucket list. |

I attended. It is the first one I attended since CONSTRUCT at National Harbor, which I know is "technically" different. Some random thoughts and observations: There were a lot of interesting presentations, and I met some great people, socialized with a lot of new and old friends. I do miss having a floor of manufacturers to visit and talk to. They had kind of a "mini" version of that, but it wasn't the same energy. But overall, I had a great experience. Most of my networking appointments were during a time slot during which a presentation that interested me was running, which was kind of a bummer. I am not sure what attendance for this was compared to the CONSTRUCT of yore, but I would guess it was a lot less. Conferences in general have gotten VERY expensive. I used to go to LightFair when it was organized by volunteers and not a professional conference organizer. It was affordable-ish. Now, it is so expensive, I just can't go. I am not sure how employers feel about shelling out so much money for employees to attend conferences. While the information I picked up in Houston was incredibly helpful for my work, it was still a lot of money. I remember conferences used to have more "menu" type options, where you could select what you wanted to do, and I didn't realize that this did not. Or at least not to the extent conferences in the past did. I agree about having to scan the QR code after every presentation. My phone battery was running REALLY low at one so I plugged it in. I barely was able to scan the code. And, as I learned afterwards, of the emails addresses I have, I used to wrong one. So I have no idea what the status of my CEUs are. I took the POST tour which was very interesting. And I got a scoop of some fantastic ice cream. Overall, however, I do think the organizers did a good job. |
