I am working on developing the criteria specs for a chain retail establishment. In some jurisdictions, the trades need to apply for their own permit, for example, the plumbing subcontractor is responsible for a separate plumbing permit from the general building permit. The powers-that-be want to include something that addresses this in our Division 01 sections because these specs are generalized for the chain. I am not having much luck tracking down text to use, or at least to inspire me to create the appropriate text. My inclination is to add it to Administrative Requirements. And advice would be greatly appreciated. |

What is the issue that the owner is trying to solve? Sounds like one of those "this happened to me once so I'm going to add another provision to the specs" requirements. And, I'm not sure why this should need to be addressed separately from the more general requirements to follow local law. Those provisions are usually part of the Contract, not Specs. If you don't already have some language about permitting, this provision is likely to stand by itself where it won't be seen by anyone. But, if the owner insists, your idea seems to me to be best. |

Permits are typically addressed in A201, 3.7. Unless the Owner intends to pay for the permits directly, there shouldn't be anything to put in the specifications. Also, it's up to the GC/CM to determine who is getting permits by trade. |
