Client wants to use wirecloth in 1" grid pattern as a screen for openings in a parking garage - but this job is in Puerto Rico where aluminum rusts, stainless steel is too expensive, PVC coated galvanized steel - maybe, but is there any molded plastic products out there that would give the same look and what would the framew material be to bount the screen? Comments and suggestions appreciated. |

Try the McNichols Company ("the hole story" people) www.mcnichols.com They have wire cloth in PVC. Another possibility if load resistance is an issue is fiberglass grating but that won't save you any money. |

Another company that I found to be MUCH easier to work with than McNichols (they're not very nice on the phone) is Diamond Manufacturing Company (330) 477-4766 or www.diamondman.com. They have a great catalog and are very helpful with questions. They can perforate metal, fiberglass, and plastic, but don't do wire cloth. Maybe you can find something close to what you need for your project. |

The only company that I know of that makes plastic wire cloth is Southern Specialty (www.southernspecialty.net) |

I agree McNichols is difficult to deal with, not very architect friendly. If we go with PVC coated galv. do we use pvc coated galv. angles to support the screen at the wall and if so who manufactures that product? Fiberglass grating is pricey, but client seems to be looking for longevity and not cost - ha, ha, ha...that will change when he gets the numbers in - I also thought about Cross Industries - there vinyl lattice, but it not the same look. Thanks David and Tracy for your quick responses. |

I would be concerned about the loading capabilities of these products. Are they intended, or would they in fact, be needed to prevent falls like a railing? Another less expensive option, though granted a different look, might be vinyl-coated or alumimun chain link fencing. I don't know if there's such a thing as aluminum wirecloth, but that might work too. |

Not only loading, but vandalism is a concern too. PVC mesh can be cut with a utility knife or box cutter easily. PVC-coated chain link fencing is available in 1" x 1" mesh sizes, actually in mesh down to 3/8" (which is "non-climbable" security-type mesh). And the fencing is a complete system, with posts, tension bars, clips, etc., in lieu of having to develop a custom mounting detail. |
