I have to write a specification to refinish stainless steel elevator interior surfaces. Anybody have information on that? Best place to go, standards to use, an already written spec I can steal... |

I don't have anything specifically on refinishing stainless, but the big metal restoration contractors like Stuart Dean (if they're in your area) can help with the technique. I saw some guys in my office lobby just last week using Scotch-Brite pads on a s.s. guard desk - but I didn't see what chemicals they were using (didn't have much odor). In my neck of the woods (Boston), any time you do anything inside an elevator you need to use a licensed elevator constructor (union regs). There are specialists here that do elevator cab interiors (and sometimes electro-mechanical upgrades) who have been helpful to me in the past on this type of think. I'd try those two routes. |

You may also want to try getting in touch with a food service equipment fabricator. They deal with refinishing SS counters, sink tables, drain boards, etc. all the time. Since they have to repair and touch-up their stuff all the time (lest they eat the cost of refabricating it!), they may turn out to be a great resource as well. Good Luck! |
