A client asked me today if I have heard of a ceramic roof coating product that is sprayed onto a roofing system (such as BUR) and acts as a cap sheet/protective sheet and has a inherent R-value. And, goes on for about 60 cents a square foot. Anyone heard of such a product? |

Is your client thinking of polyurethane foam? |

The product Colin pointed me to sounds like what my client is talking about. Anyone know anything about their success/failure rate? |

Try using Google to search for "ceramic roof coating". I did and found a link to http://www.acrytech.com/ceramax.htm I don't know anything about the product but it is amazing how Google can find such stuff when the correct mix of keywords is submitted.

A company was hawking this stuff to our team located in the Middle East a couple of years ago. I recall when digging into it that Dun & Bradstreet couldn't find the manufacturer, who had a post office box in some small town in North Dakota. They had piles of product information that didn't say anything. It sounds like poop on a stick to me. Hmmm ... we've got this glop. What can we put it on? Let's put it on roofs and write a warranty. Do some TV ads. Miracle coating. I figure if it were really great stuff, GE or someone would own it, and the roofing companies would offer it as a really expensive option. As it is, I'll bet applying it voids any existing roof membrane warranties. |
