For those of you who work for a firm ...

Would you join SCIP if "allowed" to as an associate member? I would.

Granted, there are some unique areas which affect a spec consultant versus someone who works for a firm. But, I think the 4Specs forum shows there are also universal issues that affect all spec writers.

I'd join in a heartbeat...SCIP members are some of the most knowledgable in our industry. I'd be prouder to be an associate member of SCIP than I am of being an associate AIA!

I do not perceive this as a mutual aid society, but I would welcome any membership status with SCIP, for the sake of access to more information. Since CSI has developed its niche, in a different direction, I find better, and more helpful information and advice on this forum than anywhere else. I realize I may be intruding and imposing on the consultant folks who must support their operations through their expertise and efforts, alone, but I do deeply appreciate their insight, help, and advice. Isn't it really true that none of us can know everything about everything and therefore, we all need a little help from time to time?

I've been lobbying for years trying to get SCIP to create some kind of associate membership for us firm-employed types. I would participate in a heartbeat.

I'd join as an associate if "Government" specifiers were welcomed...

I don't want to speak out of turn for SCIP...but I do know that we have been talking about this for the past year, and the subject has been discussed. I didn't attend the SCIP meeting in Chicago last year, but will be there this year. I think that the more knowledge we can gather in one organization, the better. I will keep you posted as I learn more. Any other SCIP members know what was decided about this?
