I've been practicing since 1948. Fifty-five years; that's enough. It's time I moved over and made room for one of you younger people.

You have been good to me. You flattered me into being visiting lecturer at more than 40 universities and seminars from Vermont to Vancouver BC and from Little Rock to Honolulu.

You got me elected to CSI Fellow in 1974 and to receive CSI's highest award in 1998, its "Gold Medal and Honorary Membership." And royalties keep trickling in to tell me some of you are still buying my books. But above all, and for which I shall be eternally grateful, I've loved the work.

I'll keep my e-mail address (HMAspec@AOL.com) in case one of you continues to need a question answered, or just wants to say hello, but Elizabeth is right about life not being a dress rehearsal. If your e-mails now go unanswered for a while it's because she and I are away on some new adventure.

Thank you for your support and friendship over the years. I wish all of you long life, good health, and continued success.

Hans

Hans:
Sorry to hear that you have decided to hang up your keyboard for a little fun and relaxation. Hey, wait a minute.....you've earned the right!! Thank you for all that you have done over the years to make this organization great. Nough said. May both you and Elizabeth enjoy retirement. You've certainly earned the right....

One day someone will say “I knew him, he was present at the creation of a new profession, that of specifier.”

To a mentor that I’ve known since 1974 when we worked together, with Jim Zerbe at DMJM, I can only say that we’ll miss you and your words of wisdom, even though we sometimes disagreed.

My best to you and Elizabeth on your well deserved retirement.

Hans, if you find you can't stay away, call me. There ought to be a job around here somewhere. I hope you will keep coming to LACSI meetings when the topic interests you. Love to you and Elizabeth, and my best wishes for a long and happy retirement.

Hans,
I wish you were postponing this for a year or two until we get some of the issues surrounding MasterFormat, the book we used to call the Manual of Practice, the leaderdhip training we used to call Leadership Training, writing exercises in the certification exam, and Whither SCIP? straightened out.
You have a way of cutting to the core of each issue that affects us all.
Since you have been indiscreet enough not to change your e-address, from time to time I mean to seek your advice. But not Sunday mornings when you and Elizabeth are bestowing benediction on the eggs and popping the bubbly.
Alles gutes!
