I'm trying to get more detailed maps of basic wind speeds per ASCE 7 than is available in the printed version of the International Building Code. It's pretty hard to discern where your project site falls based on those maps. I thought I remembered finding such maps in a larger scale somewhere on the internet, but I can't find them now. Does anyone know where they might be?

Have you tried the US Weather service? My husband is always checking out that site during hurricane season. I'll see if I can be the url from him.

Check with your favorite structural engineer. I believe that ASCE-7-98 (and 02) offered a CD that you could look up wind and hurricane loads by zip code.

You might also try and check with the local code authorities. They may have more specific info on local wind conditions.

Try your TV weather forecaster. I've found local TV and newspapers to be helpful, though often slow to respond.

Both NRCA and Factory Mutual Global provide wind speed information for designed wind uplift. NOAA offers wind speed maps too. NRCA would be the easiest to locate.

Hmm, have you tried to get your hands on the CD-ROM version of the IBC? Seems to me that the seismic map was reasonably user-friendly. Can't find my copy at the moment, but I wouldn't be surprised if the windspeed maps were in there, too. I hope you've solved your problem by now, but if not, I hope this helps.
