It is my understanding that many of the Federal Standards (FS), etc. have or are being replaced by ASTM Standards. Can anyone enlighten me as to the truth of this. If it is true, is there somewhere one may go to find out which Federal Standards have been replaced by ASTM Standards. |

It's true. In accordance with the "National Technology Transfer and Advancement Act of 1995," the Federal Government is required to use voluntary consensus standards where available to reduce the Government's time and money spent on developing their own standards. The GSA website below lists the Federal Standards that have been superceded (see item 5): http://apps.fss.gsa.gov/pub/fedspecs/index.cfm Be patient, though, it takes a while to load up. |
