I have a Client in Shanghai, China who wants to build a LEED certified home. But I vaguely remembered that LEED for Home is only available for project sites within USA. Is this true or false? And also, is there a LEED for Home v3 out yet?

Another obvious question. To secure the LEED point associated with engaging a LEED AP, is it essential that the LEED AP was acredited under the new system (with specialist designation) or can an appointed LEED AP who had not opted for the new system still be counted towards earning that innovation in design credit?

Let's knock this out!

http://www.usgbc.org/ShowFile.aspx?DocumentID=5482
LEED-Homes "Scope and Eligibility Guidelines"

"At this time, projects outside the US, US territories, or military bases are not allowed to participate in LEED for Homes. Canadian projects are allowed to participate, through the Canadian version of LEED for Homes."

LEED for Homes is not part of the LEED 2009 (v3) system. Since the certification process is substantially different from the other commercial products, it for the moment is on its own update track. I'm not sure how/if that will change in the future and am not currently aware of any drafts/updates planned.

LEED AP credit for LEED-Homes must come from a LEED-AP Homes specialized person. This is not the case for other rating systems (i.e. a LEED AP without specialty, or a LEED AP with a specialty in a different commercial system, can earn credit in all commercial systems). The wording is a little vague on this subject, but I'm 99.9% sure that you must have a LEED-Homes specialty in order to earn that point.

Hey Joel, awesome! This reinforced our understanding too.

Thanks for the tip. You must be that guy perpetually sitting on top of the mount with the green aura...

People like Joel, Phil Kabza, Ron Geren, and at least a dozen others, are what make this forum so great. They each have a deep and broad knowledge of one or more topics important to our industry and are very effective at sharing that with the rest of us in a clear and concise way. Thanks, Joel and the many, many others who have made this forum so valuable for me. Props to you too, Colin.

Thanks for the kind words... I would also echo that this is one of the very few forums where you can actually learn something!
