A LEED project assessor recently required clarification by asking us to submit a VOC budget of the applied paints & coatings. She further describe it as "...budget should include the quantity (in liters), actual VOC (g/L) and allowable VOC (g/L) for each product." I know a budget is usually a comparative analysis of baseline versus actual, yet concerned that we do not have the raw information to calculate the off-gases quantity. Does anybody has a handy VOC budget template or example that we can adopt and learn off? Pls send to stevek@dnagreendesign.com, thanks in advance. |

I don't have such a template, but the concept is simply that the average VOC per gallon is calculated for the project. This must be done by the contractor, documenting the exact quantity and VOC content of each type of finish used. Then it is simple arithmetic. total number of gallons of coating used on project total VOC in all coatings Where total VOC is sum of (gallons used for each type times VOC content for each type) |

Had a recent requirement for the filing of a "LEED-C1 letter template" to verfiy compliance with standards. Haven't gotten into this fully, but this may be the document you're after. |

Here's a step by step instruction on how to satsify this requirement in a Walls and Ceilings Magazine article called Alternative VOC Calculation for LEED: http://www.wconline.com/Articles/Column/BNP_GUID_9-5-2006_A_10000000000000347405 |

Don't forget to ask what colors too. Tinting can/does add VOCs. |
