ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 189, Standard for the Design of High-Performance, Green Building Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings

Here’s an interesting link to a history of the development of Standard 189…from the website…”Green Building Law”. Highly recommended reading:

http://www.greenbuildinglawblog.com/2009/04/articles/codes-1/icc-to-create-commercial-green-building-code/

This standard (with “consensus” by ASHRAE, ILSENA, USBC, and the AIA) folds LEED criteria into a standard for commercial buildings that would develop …”a model code that provides legal standards for high performance green buildings…”.

Note: ICC currently has its own “green building standard” (ICC 700-2008 National Green Building Standard, approved 1/29/09) which is for residential buildings and California has their own Green Building Standards Code (Title 24 Part 11…currently voluntary, but mandatory in August 1, 2009).
