Has anyone had experience specifying Ecowood and would be willing to share specs or knowledge on this product, seems the website is void of CSI specs. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Jerry:
which Ecowood are you talking about? there's a trade-named bamboo called that, and some other recycled/composite products called that. if its bamboo, I can discuss.

Anne, this EcoWood is manufactured in England. It is an extruded product from organic recycled waste. There is a website: http://www.ecowoodltd.com/ and I am waiting to hear from the manufacturer.

Looks like TREX with an English accent.

We'll see if they respond to a typo. The interactive on the home page says "Hover you mouse over an icon for more information..." so I emailed the error and also requested a specification. Sometimes it takes more than one request to get results...

Comparing Trex to Ecowood I notice that Ecowood claims no wood content. They suggest that this is an environmental plus. Trex is made with wood fiber and plastic.

Without comparing the utility of the two products, I have a problem with the suggestion that it is better ecological practice to eschew wood. Wood is a renewable resource. Forests that are properly managed for multiple use (including timber production) are a powerful engine for absorbing carbon dioxide. If forests aren't used for timber they have no economic value to the surrounding people and they are likely to be cleared for agriculture or cut down for firewood. More forest is lost to cattle farming than to clear cutting.

I acknowledge that there are forests that are badly managed, and that one should be careful to specify species and/or sources that are sustainably managed.

I'll take my soapbox with me, thanks.

You're preaching to the right crowd here, so soapboxes are ok - as long as they are made from renewable or recycled materials! ;-)

I defer to others then, but it seems to me that if you're shipping the stuff across the Atlantic ocean, you've lost some sustainability right there.
and my soapbox is old-growth timber, but then its been in the family for 3 generations. (Loggers since 1910.....)

Here's the response I received:

Hi Lynn,
Thanks for spotting the typo! We were aware and its down for revision in the next update.

We do not have our material specifications in CSI 3 Part format as we are a European based company and thus follow EU legislation.
Although we have many product tests certified to ASTM we have recently had more tests done to BS and EN standards.
Our website has the list of tests and specifications, these will shortly be added to with Fire Reaction (EuroClass D),Thermal Conductivity (0.28 W/m) and Janka Hardness (1836 lbf).

Hope this helps
regards
John
