Any one preparing LEED specs in the Middle East - curious how you have incorporated Estidama requirements?

Estidama is an aspiration. It is not incorporatied beyond that.

We use the appropriate LEED rating system as we would in the US.

Thanks Wayne, I have a CC at 10am EST to discuss this and your answer is a relief.

We're currently writing specs for projects in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Qatar. The LEED requirements are similar to the US with the added burden of finding data from local suppliers.

The director of Estidama, Holley Chant, left the Estidama program recently, and we haven't seen it mandated. Some owners have elected to track compliance, but I don't believe there are Estidama reviewers in the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council. If you need a copy let me know.

Anyone else having similar experiences writing specifications in the UAE?

Lisa, I have a copy of the ESTIDAMA Assessment method for New Residential and Commercial Buildings dated May 08, is there a newer version available?

Jerome, I believe May 2008 is the latest version. We have a later copy in print form, but the differences seem to be very minor.

Just thought that I would provide everyone an update on Estidama...

The April 2009 Preview release is now online: http://www.estidama.org/$Common/Doc/ThePearlsDesignSystem_NewBuildingsRatingMethod.pdf

The rating system is still in progress and the Pearl Rating System itself has not been mandated.

However, Abu Dhabi UPC has mandated the Estidama Integrated Design Process (EIDP) as part of their Development Review Process. I would highly recommend that you go over the Development Review Process on their website and pay special attention to the Estidama - Form E.

You can download "Form E - Integrative Design Process Development Planning Application" at http://www.upc.gov.ae/Libraries/Downloads_En/Estidama_Form.sflb.ashx?download=true

Hope this helps.
