LEED Reference Guides (for NC & CS) explicitly mentions submission of documentation (e.g., construction phase submittals), so USGBC can adjudicate compliance with credits…but does not specifically mention requiring documentation for prerequisites. AIA MasterSpec only lists submittal requirements for documenting credits…nothing for documenting prerequisites. Whereas USGBC website, under Certification webpage says “…Letter Templates and additional submittals for each prerequisite and credit are reviewed…”
Does anyone having been involved in actual certification process, know if USGBC has required or does require documentation of prerequisites…as standard procedure? Specifically, there are two (SS Prerequisite 1 & EA Prerequisite 3) that potentially, in my opinion, could involve the Contractor (i.e., certifying that requirements of prerequisite were met), and thus, possibly be the accompanying documentation to be submitted to USGBC to confirm compliance. |

Go back and review the Credit, including the intent and the requirements, check out the Reference Guide again, and look at the templates. Sometimes it is a little bit obscure, but the information is there. |

The sample letter templates (for both prerequisites and credits) are more explicit/specific in what is necessary for supporting documentation...and was just what I was looking for. Thanks Peggy. |

Of the five prerequisites that I see in LEED NC-2.2, none appear to be contractor requirements, therefore none would result in contractor documentation requirements in Division 01 or individual specification sections. The required documentation for all five appears to be more appropriately supplied by the owner or A/E. |

We use a modified version of the LEED checklist (that we insert after the DIV ONE LEED Section) that identifies the Contractor's scope for each LEED point, including the Prerequisites with no Contractor involvement:
"No Contractor Role"
"Primary Role"
"Secondary Role"
Including the "No Contractor Role" points allows us to have the entire LEED overview described in the documents. |

Of the seven prerequisites in NC-2.2, I personally feel that Contractor, during course of construction, COULD possibly provide documentation for a few that would additionally support whatever documentation that Owner or A/E submits. Personally, I would not explicitly state that Contractor has no role for a specific prerequisite or credit (i.e., specifying what the Contractor doesn't have to do...Steve, do you specify everything that Contractor doesn't have to do...for the entire project?), but DO state only that which it DOES have an obligation. |

No we do not state the items the Contractor doesn't need to do throughout the specifications. |
