What CSI specification number shat I recommend to Civil for Rammed Aggregate Piers? Thanks.

There is an existing number, 316613.13 Rammed Aggregate Piles (316613 is Special Piles).

MasterFormat seems to use "piles" and "piers" somewhat interchangeably.

I currently on a project that is using "Drilled Displacement Columns" Could fit in any of above categories? Yeah...clear as (Bay) Mud!

I thought piles supported the building in large part by the friction between the soil and the pile on the sides of the pile. In contrast, piers supported the building by resting on suitable material at the bottom.

To further confuse the discussion I seem to recall that they are differentiated by their aspect ratio.

Since rammed aggregate piles are more properly a means of soil improvement with the geotechnical engineer taking the lead my advice is to call them what the geotechnical engineer wishes to call them.

The geotechnical engineer should also write the technical portions of the specification scetion.
