School client has asked for anti-loitering equipment which emits a high frequency noise that is annoying to teenagers. Links sent to me through the architect is http://www.movingsoundtech.com/

The architect has asked if I have ever specs something like this before. First I had heard of it, so I have not, and the manufacturer doesn't have a spec for it.

The only thing that remotely comes close is 27 51 19 Sound Masking Systems, or maybe assign a custom number under 27 53 00 Distributed Systems.

Any other ideas?

Too honest Ron.

It is pretty unique. Isn't this, in a way, a public address system? Perhaps it belongs in a new Section assigned under 27 51 16.

Just for grins I tried out the age tests. All I could hear was the "60 Younger" and the "Everyone". I must have gone to too many Ramones concerts. I'm going to try this on my daughter.

Perhaps, just install a public address system that plays Lawrence Welk, young Donnie Osmond, bubblegum rock and, the ultimate weapon, Haley Mills ("Let's get together, yeah, yeah, yeah"). However, the last one was the unofficial Fight Song for my high school because, when it was played, everyone wanted to fight.

Maybe there's an off-the-shelf system available from Musak that includes connection to 70's vintage elevator music.

We had some local businesses try out that device, but they couldn't mount it far enough out of reach and the skateboard contingent responded by removing or disabling the devices.

The local library has an extensive collection of classical music and has found playing it in the front portico area to be effective. Not so annoying that anyone goes after the speakers, but just enough to discourage loitering.

I would like the classical music approach, but is it was playing "70's vintage elevator music", let alone "bubblegum" rock, I would be sorely tempted to go after the speakers myself.

Besides, isn't playing"70's vintage elevator music" a human rights violation? It is certainly polluting.

I live in San Francisco near the intersection of Haight and Ashbury. A few years back a shop there was having problems with street kids loitering in front, so they installed speakers that continuously played the "Barney Song", "I love you, you love me...."

Thank you Steve for the "ear worm". I never thought that I would be ambushed by Barney at 4specs!

There is only one cure for an ear worm as malignant as that one but it is as bad as the disease itself: Captain and Tenille's Muskrat Love. ARRRRRGH! Make it stop. Make it STOP!

We have a "sure fire" anti-loitering device here in Texas but it is manufactured by a firm in Springfield Mass. Anyone want to guess the name of that outfit?

Barney Song?

I like the version that goes,

"I hate you. You hate me. We're a dysfunctional family. With a kick by you. And a shove by me. Now we're all in therapy."

Ron, it seems Arizona has everything Texas has except the sea shore. We certainly hope for the sake of our friends in California that it never does.

Driving home today I did hear one of my favorite tunes, "Shot Through the Heart" by Bon Jovi. I tell my wife of 30 years that should be her theme song. I'm not sure she understands my allusion to Cupid's arrow. No, she is not manipulative of conniving. She is sweet and guileless and has proven over three plus decades to have the patience of Job. She does indeed own my heart.
