Hi All,
I'm working with a student team from ODU and HU here in Tidewater VA for the 2010 Solar Decathalon competition. They surprised me with a new question this week.
They have been instructed that all of the keynoting on their drawings have to be tied to the Specification Section numbers. They were asking how to do that properly. Unfortunately, I and their faculty instructors looked like deer in the headlights.
I remember ConDoc (correct term?) from years ago, and attended seminars on it, but never worked on a project that used it.
Help us out my friends! These kids have a great design, I'd hate for a mess up on this point in the rules to make them lose points in the competition.

Thanks

Margaret Chewning

Recommendations on how and examples are included in the National CAD Standard/Uniform Drawing System (NCS/UDS) in Module 7 - Notations.

This is also built into Revit. There is a complete library (database) of terms used for keynoting and inserting into Revit families. We have created our own that is shorter (Revit's is something like 5,000 entries) and more tailored to our practice.

Margaret, check out the e-SPECS keynoting management which may do just what you are looking for.

Note - I am with InterSpec (developer of e-SPECS) so may have a bias, but the keynote management was developed in conjunction with a couple off of our strategic customers.

Thanks to all who provided advice to the students. We'll see how their next review goes.

Please ensure, Margaret, that the students fully understand that this system is but one option AND is not mandatory unless it is office policy.

Often students are taught "systems" as holy grail and are not even informed of valid alternatives and the flexibility of thought that at least tells them they will surely run into variant and numerous other systems.

This, I feel, is as valuable, valid and helpful to them as the basic specifications instruction-- another "tool".
