I've never specified phenolic cores partitions, but from what I understand, they're a cross between a plastic laminate and solid plastic partitions. As I see it, you have three options: 1) Use "10 21 13 - Toilet Compartments"; 2) Use "10 21 13.19 - Plastic Toilet Compartments"; or, 3) Create your own number and title such as "10 21 13.33 - Phenolic Core Toilet Compartments" |

I use 102113.19 - at least for filing. I'm inclined to drop the .19 for the project unless I have a need to differentiate between toilet compartment materials on the project. |

Arcom MASTERSPEC groups them all together in SECTION 102113 - TOILET COMPARTMENTS. The UFGS listing is 10 21 13[.00.40] - TOILET COMPARTMENTS (The .40 is internal use level 5 number for NASA's version), but plastic laminate is separated out. When writing a specification section many MF04 users are considering the level 4 component (e.g. 10 21 13.19) to be as optional as the level 5 (e.g. 10 21 13.00.40). I am like Lynn, using detailed #-ing for some tasks but often consolidating subjects when writing a spec to avoid managing multiple copies of general & execution requirements. Seems like the level 4 #'s could offer some future prospects of linking sections in a BIM environment though. |

Did you want to soil the partitions, or clean ones that are already soiled? |

Field-soild partitoins could be specifeid in Divisoin 06, under 06 67 00. Shop-soild partitoins would be appropraitely specifeid in Divisoin 10. |

C.R. - For the life of me I couldn't figure out what the heck you were referring to in your post, but Chris's post just cleared it up for me. :-) |

Man, I wish that that 4specs had a spell check. My dislexia is catching up to me. Anyhow I would prefer to not use Level 4 numbers and just stick to 6 didgits. So I will ahve to make up a section number. |

102114, 102114 and 102115 are all unassigned if you want to name the section "Phenolic Toilet Compartments," or 102113 Toilet Compartments works as well. Open up the section and lo and behold, only phenolic partitions are specified. If you have five different types that you want in separate sections, and you want them to be consecutive in the contents, try 102124, 102125, 102126, 102127 and 102128. MasterFormat's recommendations are very simple. You can use any appropriate number and title provided that: The title does not already have an assigned number. The number has not already been assigned to another title. It is not within a Division that has been designated as reserved for future expansion. In other words, it's more important to keep the assigned numbers and titles as they are, than to try to fit the section into the "perfect spot." |

If I have 2 types in a Project they go in the same section, under different Articles. The Section is 10 21 13 Toilet Compartments. Is there any reason to repeat the same Part 1 and Part 3 verbiage in 2 different Sections, just because the panel material is different? |

OK, I guess I'm a bad guy, but we have occasion to use all of these continually [on different projects], and it is easier, FOR US, to merely include our whole office master Section without having to make extensive edits. My apologies to MasterFormat 04, and its creators. [Yes, that's me standing in the corner]. |
