The January 2/9 issue of Engineering News Record named the top 25 newsmakers of 2005. Dennis Hall was cited as one of them for his efforts in ushering through the new MF. Here's the text of the notice:
quote:Convincing hundreds of thousands of construction specifiers, product manufacturers and end-users to accept an updated numbering system for materials, components and technologies seemed to be an almost impossible task for Charlotte, N.C., architect Dennis J. Hall. Many members of the Construction Specifications Institute knew that the existing 42-year-old MasterFormat numbering system was out of date, but they could not agree on a new structure. Volunteering to lead the reform effort, Hall's patient but persistent advocacy for a radically different matrix produced a winning compromise standard that is now required on federal projects.
He deserves our congratulations. |

Yes, I read that. Congratulations are definitely in order, he has done an incredible job with MasterFormat2004 and should be recognized. Someone should let him know about this thread though, I think he is boycotting 4specs. Refer to Southern Fried Architect, September 2005 issue, last page, at: http://www.aecdaily.com/en/255211 |

Dennis was in Cincinnati just last week for his "Implementing MasterFormat 2004" program. Not only does he deserve great and eternal thanks for the work he did in getting MF04 together, but also for his presentations of that material and the valuable insight he imparts in regard to the inner working of the program and the flexibility in its adoption and implementation [which is MOST valuable in illustrating the true breadth of the format]. In addition, he is a genuine southern gentleman, most intelligent and humble-- his wit is disarming! |
