Are these obsolete terms now? I've found them helpful in class because they are easily understandable for most students, and I’d like to keep using them informally even if they are no longer official.

Under MF04, does Level 2 = broad scope; Level 3 = medium scope, and Level 4 = narrow scope? Exactly equal, essentially equal, generally equal, or not equal at all?

I use the terms this way when talking with manufacturers:

XX 3XXX as broadscope

XX 34XX as medium scope - yes there are 2 levels in the first 2 digits

XX 341x as fine scope. As CSI typically uses 13, 16 and 19 so that there is only one level at the at pair of digits.

4specs uses 2 levels with the 3 pair of digits, as does CSI in the second pair.

In the presentations I've been making on MF 04 and have used for a number of years since they came out with the Levels discription, you are correct. Divisions = Level 1, Broadscope = level 2, mediumscope = level 3 and narrow scope = level 4. Altho' that 4th level is after the decimal in MF 04 so I 'spect level 3 and 4 may share that last pair of the 6 digits in many section designations.

George,

Correct.

Except where in MF '95 each Level was a single digit, in MF '04, each Level is a PAIR of digits (with Level 4 being AFTER the decimal point).

Level 1 remains the Division number.
