Curious if anyone uses a platform for sharing details with others for input. I have a detail I am staring at now, and I know it doesn't look right, but could use some input on tweaking it. It would be great if we could have a way to post a detail and receive input.

Bluebeam Studio Session is IDEAL for that sort of thing, and completely free (with your Bluebeam user license)

Problem is, that is an "invite only" type of thing. It isn't a public forum, like this, where I can throw up a detail and get feedback, like we do with other questions here

You can attach a detail to a message here in the chat room. Be sure to provide enough of a context so we can interpret.

Robin, that is essentially true. However, you can post a public access number into a forum like here, and then everyone interested could log into it. Its not a matter of exclusivity, its more of a matter of educating people on where to go to log in!

Let's try this. Here is a link to a Blue Beam file. If you are interested, open the file and add something to it. :-)

Dewayne -- I could open your file. Is there also a way non-bluebeam subscribers can upload?

Michael, I am not sure. Is there a non subscriber in this group that can try?

Did you try to modify the file?

I'm a non-user and I was able to view the pdf, but I was not able to edit it. I also don't see how I could upload it after I edited it in another program.

That is not quite the right type of link. While that one allows you to share the document, it forces the guest to download it. A true collorative link is simply an address code that someone types into Bluebeam Studio to access "live" and edit collaboratively.

There are two kinds of Bluebeam. The free version is a view only program, and the licensed full fledged editor version. Same program, with two modes: View or Markup. Markup mode is the licensed version.

EXCEPT: In a Studio Session, all flavors of Bluebeam are able to use markup tools.

So sharing a Studio Session link may force someone to download and install Bluebeam to collarborate, but they don't need to buy anything. The free version works just like the paid version within a Studio Session.

Here is a link to a Studio Session you can use to test this out:

4Specs Test Session
Session ID: 406-943-991
Session URL: https://studio.bluebeam.com/join.html?ID=406-943-991

Ah yes, i see your email in the queue pending my approval (now approved btw). I did not realize that by default, permissions were set to "restrict". I turned that off now, so anyone should be able to join that Session.

Works great now, I accessed and edited. I didn't have to download or upload.

What's really cool is that if we are all logged in at the same time (such as on a conf call) we can see each other edit in real time. There are some useful limitations. I cannot modify your comments, although in the markup panel at the bottom of the screen, I can change the status of your comments to "Accepted, Declined" etc... and other commentary on your comments, but I cannot change the markup itself.

Now we just need a non BlueBeam user to try it. What happened to Robin?

I don't have BlueBeam; I got a link that would allow me to download a trial version.

I, like Sheldon, am a non-user and got the same link to download the program. I haven't done that yet.

Well, the Session has expired. I only set it for a week or so. For future reference, Yes, you need to download and install Bluebeam to use Studio Sessions, but NO, you do not need to BUY Bluebeam. If you install the software, you get a fully featured version for 30 days, no limits. However, after 30 days, if you do not buy the license, your install reverts to a limited version of Bluebeam that will only open, view and print PDF's, PLUS full mark up features in a Studio Session, but ONLY in a Studio Session. Otherwise the free version its just a PDF viewer. Make sense?

Final note, Bluebeam is about half the price of Acrobat, with twice the features, and unlimited cloud storage in Bluebeam Studio, (which is hosted by Amazon's S4 servers). I can't think of a single reason not to use Bluebeam over Acrobat. Especially in the AEC industry.

I am not a bluebeam user, I see the download link, but also see the PDF linked above the trial download. I clicked the PDF link and it opened the PDF, no download required.

Guest #7, yes, you can download the pdf, but that's not the interactive Studio Session. To be part of the interactive collaboration markup session, you need to be in Bluebeam, in Studio, and then enter the Session number to join the collaboration environment.

Having said that, the current studio session has expired. I can set up another if anyone is wanting to experiment further. Again, the total cost involved is $ZERO, but you do have to install Bluebeam, which does not cost anything to use as a trial (30 days) or as a viewer (forever). Any flavor of Bluebeam will allow you to access Studio Sessions and create markups, even the free veiwer version.
