Did you know that Arcom (MsterSpec) is now offering to write specifications for projects?

Interesting. I wonder if this is simply a reorganization of the service previously offered by InterSpec since both ARCOM and InterSpec were acquired by Alpine Investors.

It is a risky business for a company to compete with its customers.

Michael,

I agree with you and was very puzzled to learn about Arcom getting into the specification writing business.

A colleague tipped me off when she received a letter from Arcom asking her if she needed specification writing services. (She's an independent specifications writer!)

I thought that Arcom was offering a service to manufacturers to help them write product specifications. Arcom does have free product specifications on their website.

I will be very curious to see how this plays out.

If you have a question about it, why not pick up the phone and call Arcom?

ARCOM is now recruiting to fill position(s) which presumably means their spec consulting business is expanding. I don't know the target group for recruitment (independent specifiers? all MasterSpec users?) but assume some of you rec'd the same email I did.

In California, OSHPD, the Office of State Health Planning & Development, is the AHJ for all I occupancy hospitals and overnight care facilities.
About 15 years ago, they proposed that they would provide A/E design services for at least small projects. That fortunately never got off the ground.

I figure that Arcom saw all the big money to be made in specification writing and wanted to get in on the action.

I thought I should weigh in on this directly...
Jeffery is correct, our spec writing services are a continuation of the Interspec offering prior to acquisition. We have had a number of (mainly midsize) firms request this service, so we have continued to offer it. Our fulfillment of project specs is done almost exclusively through independent spec writers, many of whom are active on this forum; our value-added is in project management.

If you have an interest in writing project specs, manufacturer specs, or assisting with master specs, please contact us - we would love to hear from you. Contact Joe Berchenko, jberchenko@arcomnet.com
